One Piece of a Night

The Engineering Week is OVER! Class suspensions are over! Now back to our mundane normal lives.

Last Friday evening, we finally culminated the Engineering week by holding the annual “comedy” pageant. As we call it, Ginoong Engineering [2012]. Sounds gentleman-ish right? But it has to be the opposite.

Why? This pageant is not like the typical pageant where the contestants walk around the stage and show off their bodies, nice dresses, exaggerated poses, blah blah… no. This one is hilarious. Hilarious in the sense that the people you are going to see are Engineering Students. And when you hear the word Engineering, there will always be sarcasms, sarcasms, and more sarcasms. We live in a sarcastic world you know. (Just an effect of always dealing with numbers. XD)

This year’s theme is Anime. And our department UNFORTUNATELY got One Piece (throw the blame on Kuya Rochie for picking up the wrong paper during the lottery :p). So we had a hard time thinking of the character that would perfectly fit both to our representatives, and we even came to a point when we thought of changing One Piece to another but still ended up with it. One piece, one option. No choice but to scan for characters. Not Luffy, he’s already common, and he is not funny. Until we found Franky Baby!

The equation went a beach polo plus swimming trunks equals so funny PERFECT for our representative and Franky-to-be. By the way, let us call our Franky-to-be in the name of Hosea Ryan Dingcong. Not his real name. And since his body is to be exposed to the public, we made some highlights to make his character more funnier unique. We placed NIPPLE-lights! Need to explain more? Well, he’s got no choice. XD

The night came and we were excited. Here are some photos I stole from Nicole:

How we showed our fullest support to our representatives

The talent. Puppet show! ‘Ryan’ AKA Franky is the person on your left. Of course with the aide of some of my ever-supportive classmates at the back. And the person on your right played Zoro, but instead of 3 swords, he carried 3 wood saws. Ask for his photo from the person who took the pictures cause I didn’t find any from where I got these.

They were the puppet themselves.

And finally, the pirate flag (idea from Kerwin), and we painted it with the color blue. It was all blue not because it was the color we like, but because it was the only color of the paint we had! Apologies, we lack budget. And on the right, ‘Franky’ was awarded as the the Most Photogenic. I guess it was because during the pictorial at the studio, he was one of the two who didn’t share an upper apparel with others. And between them, Franky looked more human nicer than the other. No offense everyone, this is my blog! HAHA.

[L-R] Our Pirate Flag; CpE grabbed Most Photogenic

The [culminating] event ended late 9pm with Ryan as the 2nd runner up and the Department of Civil Engineering bringing home the bacon. And we brought home the hotdog, the cheese, the ham, the veggies, name it, we had fiesta! XD

Crazy Day
Friday February 10, 2012 at 00:41 | Under Events

Assuming you have never seen an Engineer or an Engineering student before, and you were asked to describe their looks based on your perspective, how would these people look like in your imagination? I bet you can not imagine them wearing long-sleeve polos and sunday dresses, rather you would have imagined them wearing a plain white polo shirt, with khaki-colored pair of pants and black shoes, haven’t you?

Hence, if you agree with me on the rather blah blah part, then I cannot blame you for that. In fact, most Engineering students do not wear what the HM, and Tourism people wear. I mean, if you require one Engineering student to wear a formal attire, they would rather choose to not attend their classes on that day than exposing themselves in front of other Engineering people. These people love to play sarcasms all the time, fyi.

And today, we had the Crazy Day. Not the driving-crazy-something-like-that. Something, crazy. I mean, crazy, crazy day.

To explain this clearly, Crazy Day is an event started by the Engineer-Professors of our school way back a long time ago, got omitted, until it was brought back by the current officers of the Engineering Consortium. This is the day when Engineering Students are asked to wear long-sleeve polo, and slack pants or jeans, or anything which is formal or semi-formal to look at for boys, and as for the girls, their Sunday dresses, or a Corporate attire. It may sound, or even look like were NOT crazy in our apparel, but believe me, up to my utmost knowledge, I also don’t know why they call it that way.

I wore the polo I bought from the mall last month. It was a vertically-striped polo, red and black in color and does fit me so well. I partnered it with a pair of jeans, and sneakers, and sunglasses for the eye accessory (and they envied me for that XD).

Everyone (Engineering Students) who participated in the event looked so nice. I mean, the scenario was really EPIC. Seeing these students wearing formal attires was really far beyond my wildest imagination. I mean I never thought WE can wear something like this, something which is unexpected for us to be wearing inside the campus. And if we didn’t say in what college we are from, nobody could have guessed right. :)

Ended the day happy, but dead tired.
